Edward G. Gallo, age 85, of West Paterson, passed away on August 8, 2012 at home surrounded by his family. Ed was born in Paterson to the late Gaetano and Mary Gallo.
He proudly served in the US Merchant Marines during WWII. He worked as a general contractor and was the owner of Gallo Builders. Ed worked on the construction of the West Paterson Fire Company #1 where he was later a volunteer, Life Member and Exempt Fireman. He was also a member of the Passaic Valley Kiwanis Club, the NJ State Governor of Kiwanis, Passaic Valley Elks Chapter # 2011, American Legion # 238, a founder and member of the West Paterson Boys and Girls Club where the gymnasium has been dedicated in his name, a member of the West Paterson Republican Club, a former West Paterson Councilman from 1957-1966, and a former member, Vice President and President of the Passaic Valley Board of Education from 1969-1978. He was also a parishioner at Our Lady of Pompeii Church in Paterson.
Ed was the beloved husband of the late Bernadette. He was the cherished father of Thomas Gallo and his wife Nancy, Patricia Lightner and her husband Kevin, and Bernadette Bargiel and her husband Larry Zisa. He was the treasured grandfather of Jeffrey Bargiel and his wife Edana, Timothy Bargiel and his wife Dina, Bethanie Sundlin and her husband Rob, Kevin Lightner, Eric Lightner and his wife Dana, Lauren Lightner, Tommy Gallo and Nicole Gallo and 7 great-grandchildren. He was the dear uncle to Deborah Schaper and Leo Methven.
